Newbie - cannot get PseudoColor

Dear All,

I'm running solaris 9, and using VNC 3.3.7 to present gnome desktops. When I
try to run a particular application I get the following:



# DISPLAY=LOCALHOST:1

# export DISPLAY

# ./melview 2.3c



Fatal Error -- Code: 2

 Message: Cannot get PseudoColor Visual 8 bits deep.



 File: MelanieApp.cc   SCCS: @(#)MelanieApp.cc  1.36    11/21/96 Line: 834

#

Where:1 is the number of the vnc viewer.



I've ready the faqs etc, and suspect I need to be running:

Vncserver -cc 3

But this fails to run (cannot open display shows in the logs)



Am I on the right track? What dumb-ass thing am I missing?
