Mandrake vncserver :1 - no picture

I am new to mandrake, this used to work with redhat.  I start a 
vncserver with vncserver :1 and I can connect great...but its blank.  I 
have had this in redhat, so I rebooted and it worked in RH.   No luck 
there.  I have it start from the rc.local with just that command.  I 
have enabled the service  to try to see what that did...nothing, it 
doesnt even start a session on 0, 1 or blank.

And direction would be great.
