Can VNC send "Sound" from the host computer to the remote compute r

Currently VNC does not transfer "sound" between computers. 

I am not sure if they are looking into this as a feature as 
1.  cross platform sound would prolly be tricky.
2.  it would use a lot of bandwith that would be better used by faster
screeen refresh.
