vncviewer-4.0 hang in WinXP

I can easily hang vncviewer:

1.  Launch vncviewer.exe
2.  minimize to system tray
3.  Right click vncviewer.exe, choose options
4.  I see something flash on the screen very quickly, but it goes away.
5.  vncviewer is hung.

I initially saw the problem when actually connected to a vnc server 
(connected between steps 1 and 2), but found the connection is not 
required to experience the hang.

The only thing to do once hung is to kill the process.
