connecting over the net

I see that this has been asked a lot, and I am sure people are getting
sick of seeing it, but what am I doing wrong?!  I am leaving for
college in about 8 hours, and I want to be able to see my desktop for
the comp at home from college, but I cant get VNC to work over the
net.  I have opened up both the 5800 and 5900 ports and forwarded them
to the right computer.

I have had friends try it from their computers with just the viewer,
typing in my IP, and it wont work.  I have had them type my IP with a
:0 after it (i.e. 68.115.xx.xxx:0, 68.115.xx.xxx:1, etc) and it still
wont work.  Is there something I am missing?  I have also tried it
through a web browser, and that wont work either.
