vnc viewer color issue on solaris

Hi,
  I am using VNC 4 on solaris now. It works great.
Except one thing the color depth is only 8 when solaris vncviewer
from VNC 4 is used. The connection speed should not be
a problem since the server and the client are running 
on the same machine. The workaround is to use vncviewer
3.3.7 with command line option "-truecolor -depth 24".
However, there is  a problem with the old viewer -- if
switch between fullscreen mode and non fullscreen mode,
the client will die.
  The color issue happened only when the client is 
running on a solaris machine. When the client is running
on a Windows XP machine (intel), the color depth switch
to 24 automatically.
 Does anything see this? Is there a workaround or patch for
the vncviewer of VNC4 on solaris?
