Silent VNC

 I'm an assistant network admin, and run VNC on many computers so I can
fix basic problems from my office.
 Most of the computers are Windows, so the VNC icon is in the taskbar. As
I am at a school, I don't want it so that students can see the program
running, or can change the password on me.

 My question is: is there a silent VNC, or has anyone expressed intrest in
making one? I would mess with the source code, but I don't want to mess
anything up.
 Even better, what tools would make runing VNC over a large network easer?
