Router not forwarding VNC

I've been lurking for weeks, and reading all the web pages and archives I 
could find, trying to find out why I couldn't use vnc through my router.  I 
was SURE I had set port forwarding up correctly, and I was SURE I had the 
external IP address correct, but I could never start the server, then try 
to use the viewer and get the "can't do a loopback" message, which would 
have told me it was working.  It never occurred to me that I couldn't do it 
if I was on the same lan.  Could a buddy up, had him try to vnc in, and it 
worked like a charm from the outside, which is all I cared about.  I wasted 
hours for nothing.  :-(

But.... thanks to your providential posting, all is well!  (Until next 
week, when my Suse Linux install CD arrives, and I go back to trying to 
figure out how to NOT get the grey screen in KDE)
