RealVNC is pleased to announce a new public beta release of VNC 4.0. VNC
4.0 is a complete redesign of the VNC system, but maintains backwards
compatibility with the old VNC 3 releases.
This release still omits a couple of features found in VNC 3.3. In all
other respects it is not anticipated to differ substantially from the first
full VNC 4.0 release. Beta 4 is believed to be stable on all supported
platforms, resolving issues found with the Beta 3 release.
New on all platforms:
- Additional colour levels for slow links
- Better colours on 8-bit palettized viewers
- Improved local cursor rendering
- Remote cursor movement visible even when local cursor is in use
New Unix features:
- Build fixes for several platforms
- Support for "-localhost" option in Xvnc
New Windows features:
- Saving of ".vnc" connection options files
- Support for Windows XP themes
Binaries and source can be downloaded from the RealVNC website at
