managing multiple participants

Dear vnc experts,

I recently subscribed to this list to get an answer to my following 
question:

When I start a vnc server enabling others to share the session using a
common password, I would like to being able to switch between active
and passive participants. I could imagine different modes of operation:

1) one active user - many observer
2) many active users (sending mouse/keyboard events) - many observer
3) all active users

Is there a way to register users and to provide an interface to
assign a mode to any registered user that can be changed by
active users?

Hope this question isn't to stupid. This would be a collaborative mode
that would be very helpful for our application.
