Hello. I just installed VectorLinux last night, my first time using linux. I'm
new to it, and enjoying it, however, i'm having trouble with the gui in
realVNC. I have browsed and searched the archives, and have not found enough
information to fix my problem.
Here's my problem: when i log into linux from windows XP via realVNC, all i
get is a command prompt (if thats what its called, i dunno lol) and a spiffy
blue background.
What i've done to fix this: I read somewheres that i need to change the
configuration file for vnc on my linux box to my specific windows manager. I
changed the file ~/.vnc/xstartup to one of my window managers, XFCE. Now, im
not sure if thats what i needed to do, because that didnt work. You see, when
i first boot up the computer, i type in 'startx' and i get a list of windows
managers i can use, and XFCE is in that list.
here's my file:
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
XFCE &
I dont know if i need to change any other lines in the file, but from the
example i saw, i only needed to change the last one.
Im completely lost as to what to do, and i apologize for asking this question
after it's been asked so many times before. But i really dont know what to
do.
Thanks.
