VNC over different subnet mask

you could try change the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0 - for some reason, 
in my experience some network programs can't understand netmask numbers 
other than 0 and 255. of course, it's not a perfect solution, and a very 
lapse in security, but if you're in a rush, it may do for a while.
