Connectivity Problems

To Whom It May Concern:

    I run a small household network containing three computers.  I would like
to initiate communication between two of them, a Dell desktop being the
server, and a Dell laptop being the viewer.  I have tried using VNC to do so.
This did not work, so I attempted to ping one computer from the other.  This
did not work either.  I am currently using a Linksys Router/Wireless Access
Point/4-Port Switch to administer my network as a DHCP server.  The server
machine is running ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton AntiVirus.  The viewer computer is
running Computer Associates' InoculateIT.  How can I fix this problem so that
there is connectivity and so I can use VNC?  Thank you so much in advance.
