Alt-key Problem

Can anyone help me diagnose a problem using Alt-keys with VNC?

I have an application that uses Qt and Motif screens.  The Motif screens
respond to Alt-F for 'File' menu but the Qt screens do not.  This is only a
problem when using VNC.  When using Exceed and the same Window Manager, both
screens work fine.

Any ideas what I can do about this?

The vncviewer is the windows client 3.3.3R3.

The vncserver is running on Solaris.  The client's connection info says
protocol version 3.5.
