detailed procedure for VNC over Internet

Hi,

seem to be lots of experts in the mailing list.

For me, as a beginner, one thing is most important, I just could NOT find in
here:
A friend of mine has made connection to internet by dial up, VNC-Server is
loaded, and is waiting for me to view.
What exactly do I have to know, to start, to do and to enter (where), to get
connection by the VNC-Viewer to my friends PC?

What I know so far, is, that I have to know his IP-Adress (I think the one, he
gets from his ISP, when connecting to internet, which is shown by the VNC-Icon
down in the task-bar). So far, no problem. But wat to do next ......
