display text reversed

Dear all,
I've just compiled and installed VNC on my Sparc Ultra 5 running Solaris 
2.8 and It works wonderfull.....
Another install on a Sparcstation5 running Mandrake Linux 7.1 using the 
supplied rpm's works but with an interesting feature -
when I connect from my WinXP box the desktop text is all reversed, and 
the terminal window just shows weird characters.

Has anybody got any ideas ????
