ICMP

My ISP recently began blocking ICMP traffic.  At about the same time my VNC 
connection to my home PC stopped working.  Is ICMP required for connection?

I tried both the normal and Java clients.  The Java client appears to make a 
connection since it shows my PC's name in the title bar of the window, but I 
can't log in.
