SuSE 9.0/KDE 3.1.4 and vnc

I'm having problems with my vncserver on a SuSE Linux 9.0 Professional
system. The server starts (with X, and KDE errors in the log) and I can
connect with my Windows vncviewer but most KDE applications like
Konqueror and Konsole fail with signal 11 errors.

I recently upgraded to SuSE Linux 9.0 Pro from SuSE Linux 8.1 Pro where
vnc, X, and KDE at that level worked fine. Appears that I now have an
incompatibility between vnc, and KDE (3.1.4), or X on the SuSE 9.0
system.

I have tried vnc 3.3.7, which worked on my SuSE 8.1 system and the vnc
V4 beta -- they both fail similarly with SuSE 9.0.
