If you have a firewall on the route, then security is an issue. Since you
don't give tools to burglers, better not forward port 5800 (wich only
purpose is to distribute the java viewer).
Hence you only need to forward port 5900. Since security is an issue, use
ssh (or a variant) to do some port mapping (and adding some security)
SOme vncservers have options, others have registysettings to set the
portnumber.
