There are some temp files created by VNC that might need cleaned up
(example for :3) /tmp/.X3-lock and /tmp/.X11-unix/X3.  The VNC script
usually points out this if that is the error, though.

A while back in the list someone was having a similar problem and it was
caused by another process using one of the ports needed by VNC.  Check
ports 5803, 5903, 6003 to see if any process is using them (change the 3
to 4 for the :4 display).  Does Solaris have the netstat command?  If so
look at the output of:
$ netstat -lnt
