Problem on Linux with Evolution

I'm not sure about 1, possibly a keyboard language issue?

For number 2, log out of the local machine.  Or if you need to be logged
into the local machine and use VNC at the same time, set VNC up to use a
separate account.  There are some programs that get confused when you have
two simultaneous desktops (Gnome among them).
