FW: Black screen win 2000 client/server

(vnc 3.3.7 issue) 
 
Im using vnc to remotely administer a humanitas site.
Im working over a connection via a two network servers:

 Win2K SP2      lin2420                lin2.4.18         Win2K SP2
 VNC Client                                              VNC Server 
                                                          Service
 
Somehow, this doesnt work for all desktops in the remote network.
Especially one desktop doesnt work. Im getting very fast a black
initial screen without a real cursor (only the dot). 
 
However, when I do the same thing using following strategy:
 
   --<VNC connection>-  -----<remote VNC connection>--------
   |                 |  |                                  |
<client> --- <local server> --  -- <remote server> --- <desktop>
 Win2K SP2      lin2.4.20             lin2.4.18          Win2K SP2
 VNC Client <----->   VNC Server
                      VNC Client <------------------->   VNC Server
 
It works! 
 
All other connections work. I can ping the remote Win2K machine from my
\
local Win2K machine. Other remote Win2K machines work fine.
 
Is there any explanation for this behaviour?
