VNC just won't die!

I installed 3.3.6 a while back on my Win2k machine but don't use it that 
often. when I went to launch it recently I was told it was already launched. 
Sure enough, I was able to log into my machine from another (using my normal 
password that I had set earlier) even though there was no icon on my system 
tray. I used the control panel to remove VNC and rebooted but I still seem 
to be able to log into my machine. I just did a search for files called VNC 
in the "program files" directories of my machine but it finds nothing. There 
is no longer a folder where the application once lived and there is no 
mention of it in the Add/remove control panel yet it seems to live on... Any 
idea what might be happening?
