can't get vnc to work, with lynksys router

I have the same router you are using. You must turn DHCP off and use
"Port forwarding" not "Port triggering". Setup static addresses on your
network and forward ports 5900-6000 to the WIN98 machine running VNC.
This should work.

Hi
It can be a MTU setting in the router smaller than the default ones in
your W98 workstation and your remote computer.
See the excellents http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/,
http://www.webcom.com/llarrow/mtumss.html
Your can use WinDump http://windump.polito.it to examine the trafic
You can use "ping -f -l 1400, 1480, 1500, ..." to see if there is a
difference with and without your router when the packet becomes
fragmented.
If you have a FTP server on the remote computer, you can evidence the
problem with a "ls/dir" on an empty directory working ok (less than 200
bytes transferred for example) and a "ls" on a big directory (more than
1600 bytes transfered) not working.
I got 18 months ago the same problem with a CenterCom ADSL router in
Japan.
