dreaded xp/vnc black screen issue...
Thu Oct 17 14:45:01 2002
k... I'll answer my own question!
I spent some more time playing with XP/VNC to see what works and what
My findings are that when XP is using multiple profiles, and "fast
switching" is enabled, VNC fails to switch with the profile...
So if you:
1) Install VNC from the admin account
2) Disable fast switching for XP profiles
3) Go into each profile (the icon should be displayed - with Fast Switching
on it does not show up when switching to another profile) change the
settings for the vnc server to reflect a different display number
...you will be able to remote control the machine regardless of which
profile is used with XP. When you switch profiles, note that VNC will close
down, but you can log back on using the display number for the profile you
are now logging onto XP with.
XP User1 ===> vnc display 0 (machineip:0)
XP User2 ===> vnc display 1 (machineip:1)
XP User3 ===> vnc display 2 (machineip:2)
Unfortunately I could not get VNC to load at startup (XP lands on the
"welcome page" where the list of users is presented), it seems VNC won't
start until a profile is selected.
Maybe someone knows how to fix this issue...
