Disabled window issue using 3.3.5 w/ XP Server & 98 viewer

This is really a strange one...

Reverse connection from XP server to 98 viewer both running 3.3.5
with default settings over fast internet connection.

Everything connects and works beautifully - at first. As soon as
any app is launched and 'clicked into', its window becomes
visually disabled (title bar goes grey) and it does not respond
to anything else, either from the remote or local side. It
cannot even be closed. Other windows can be opened, but the
same thing happens to them. The only way to get rid of them is
to kill their processes. The remote viewer can still move the
mouse around and select other apps to run. Again, the app will
start fine and it starts with a blue title bar, but as soon as
I try to click it or type into it, it goes grey.

I have tried many server/viewer settings variations, but none
seem to fix this behaviour.

I have, in the process of narrowing this down, tested these
other OS/vnc version combos:

98 3.3.5 viewer to XP 3.3.5 server - problem above
98 3.3.5 viewer to XP 3.3.4 server - problem above
98 3.3.3 viewer to XP 3.3.5 server - problem above
98 3.3.3 viewer to XP 3.3.4 server - problem above
98 Tight125 viewer to XP 3.3.5 server - problem above
98 Tight125 viewer to XP 3.3.4 server - problem above
98 3.3.5 viewer to XP 3.3.3 server - works
NT 3.3.5 viewer to XP 3.3.5 server - works
XP 3.3.5 viewer to XP 3.3.5 server - works
XP 3.3.5 viewer to 98 3.3.5 server - works

So it looks like its the combination of any 98 viewer and an
XP server running either 3.3.4 or 3.3.5 that causes the issue.

The XP machines involved have Service Pack 1 and Win98s are
various, some 4.10 some SE.

Has anybody seen this before, or have any ideas? RealVNC folks,
can you try duplicating this?

Thanks,

Gary Sieker
