Redhat 8, vnc 3.3.3, & gnome-session -- memory leak

If I run gnome system applications (gnome-system-monitor, gnome-terminal,
etc) with the above combination, the gnome applications leak memory at a
prodigious rate.  Easy way to watch it is to start the gnome-system-monitor
and just observe its own memory field.  It grows rather rapidly.  These same
applications run fine against the Xserver on the console (:0).  I just avoid
these apps as a workaround but if anyone has a clue, I would like a better
solution.
