Graham,
I followed your instructions but I don't seem able to get rid of the VNC
icon on the machine that I am viewing. Any suggestions?

This works only if you are running Win NT/2K/XP and you must have it
installed as a service, and be logged in with the required user
rights.
1) goto Start | Run and type CMD
2) at the command prompt type: net stop "VNC Server"
3) then type: net start "VNC Server"
That will disable the VNC Icon. You should also remove the short cut
to run the service helper as this is what displays the icon.
