Consolidating VNC and TightVNC

Has there ever been a consensus or conclusion
reached about the possibility of merging VNC
with TightVNC?  I see such good stuff on both
mailing lists, it would be great to have the best
of both worlds.  (From the VNC world, I hear
lots about solaris, I would find that very helpful).
