Hello,
The mailing list was searchable when hosted by
AT&T. Could that capability be made available
now? (This is addressed more to the vanilla
VNC forum, as I already asked about TightVNC).
The problem I was searching for is that the
viewer always seems establish an 8bpp
connection, even though I specify "-depth 24".
I'm using solaris 8, TightVNC 1.2.2 (still) for
both viewer and server, on separate sun
boxes. I start the server with "-depth 24" and
look at the log file, no information about color
depth. I then start the viewer with "-depth 24"
and the viewer response says:
VNC server default format:
32 bits per pixel.
Most significant byte first in each pixel.
True colour: max red 255 green 255 blue 255, shift red 16 green 8 blue 0
Using default colormap and translating from BGR233. Pixel format:
8 bits per pixel.
True colour: max red 7 green 7 blue 3, shift red 0 green 3 blue 6
Got 248 exact BGR233 colours out of 256
New messages then get written to the log file
on the server side, confirming the 8bpp connection.
I don't know why the viewer is ignoring my
request for 24bpp, but it happens regardless of
whether I use ssh (i.e. -VIA) or whether I use
hextile encoding versus the default of "copyrect tight".
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Fred
