You're a student, I'm not going into details, I will give you some
guidelines.

You can ping: the route is ok, no problem here. Can you do a telnet? Try
`telnet machine 5900` or add the display number to the portnumber. You
should get a message with "RFB..." in it.

If you can use ssh, does ping use ssh (accidetly)?
Search the archives on vnc over ssh connections and the odds in there.
