Are the passwords the same for both machines? Are the OS's the same? If
so, go to the good machine and "export the ORL key onto a file and transfer
it to the bad machine. If you install the reg settings there it might get
your settings correct nfor you.

Have a Good Day,

Michael,

I did as you wrote but no change. I then restarted in Safe Mode and was
able to start WinVNC and this time get a window for setup, I gave a
password
and then restarted the computer. Now I could start WinVNC and right click
the icon and go to Properties. Here the Accept Socket Connection was
un-checked and the password grey. After checking and click OK we are back
where we started, the program hangs. I do a ctrl-alt-del and kill the not
responding WinVNC. However, when shutting down, I now get three blue
screens one after the other but Enter clears to machine shut down.

Next I'll try killing anything not essential before opening WinVNC.

Any other suggestions.

Roger Cuthbert

Robert,
You probably made a mistake somewhere in the install and setup and
cannot find it. I would suggest going to the troubled machine and
uninstalling VNC. Then go into the registrry and delete the 'ORL' keys.
Make sure you search the entire registry for any references to ORL or VNC
so you get it all out. After completely removing all VNC related items
from the registry, start menu, and program files folder then reboot and
reinstall from scratch. Now that you are more familiar with the program,
you shouldn' t make any inadvertent mistakes installing and setting up. I
did this a few times until I felt I understood the program well enough to
deploy it throughout my network.

Have a Good Day,

Michael L.

I did steps 1 and 2 but with the same result. I get no window to add the
password. I get no window when I ask for the 'about' box. The computer
says it is running if I try to reload.

When I do alt-ctrl-del and kill WinVNC and then remove from the control
panel I always get blue problem screen when shutting down or rebooting.

I've looked at the register and that seems OK.

Any help please.

Roger

There is a place on the start menu

step 1:
start/programs/VNC/admin tools/install service
step 2:
sart/programs/vnc/admin tools/show default settings

Step one will put the icon in your sys tray. Step two will config the
settings, or you can just click on the sys tray icon.
