I run numerous mailing-lists, so I'll comment.

There were two errors made here. The first was by Mampre. One
should not use an auto-responder if one is subscribed to any
mailing-lists. We've all just seen why, although judging by his snotty
messages, Mampre doesn't seem to realize that he caused the
transmission of tens-of-thousands of annoying messages and made
a valuable resource essentially useless for several days. If one must
use an auto-responder, there are several options in order of
preference: 1) use the list of exclusion addresses within your mail-
server or -client's autoresponder, and exclude all mailing lists, so
that it won't reply to things like vnc-list "at" realvnc.com; 2) turn off the
list-mail while your auto-responder is active (see the welcome
message you got from the list); 3) use a smart responder that won't
reply more than once in 48 hours to the same address.

The second error was made by the list-administrator. Loop-
detection should be turned on in the server. If the server is not
capable of loop-detection, there are plenty of free alternatives that
are.
