VNC server for Mac

I was trying out the VNC server for Macintosh today, and ran into a couple of 
problems.

The "official" version (3.3.2 beta from the uk.research site) un-stuffed OK, but 
after installing the patches and rebooting I tried the "settings" thing, and it 
won't let me change anything.  Keeps saying the preferences file is locked, so 
the session is read-only.  Without doing the settings (like password etc.) I 
can't make use of the server.

The Chromatix version will not unstuff into a folder of files at all.

Help me out here, folks!
