Extra Control Characters

Hi,

  I am facing a problem when viewing
  windows 2000 screen on windows 98 machine.

  Whenever I type ' or " ( single or double quote )
  a ^@ ( Ctrl-@ ) goes automatically after it as
  '^@ or "^@. This causes problems espacially when
  I am using vi (actually vim). I cannot use buffers
  for copy/paste as it uses ".

  Has any one on this list faced/solved a similiar
  problem. Is there a problem with my win98 keyboard
  setting. The characters do show correctly locally
  though.
