Anti-aliasing is a technique for drawing characters on the screen.  It uses
gray pixels to smooth out the characters and to make them less jagged.  I
think the lack of anti-aliasing in most Unix desktops is the reason why
Windows looks so much better.  It's just a cosmetic thing, but I think it
makes a big difference.
