If this is the unlock password for your 2000 box, have you changed your
display resolution recently and not restarted since?  If so, your lock
screen will be using your old display settings, when you unlock, the screen
uses your new settings and you get ditched.  Restarting the 2K box (to allow
the lock/logon screens to use the same resolution) seems to work for me.
