Launching at startup, and multiple entries in xstartup

Hi again...

Has anyone successfully done the following (in Linux):

1. Set up VNC to launch as a server during the boot process (I can't figure
this out)
2. Set up xstartup so that it supports multiple settings (i.e. you can pass
in a name to launch a particular type of server... i.e. GNOME, KDE, or just
a console). I read the documentation, but it is pretty vague on this point.

Thanks for all the help!
