FYI,
I had this grey screen recently, Solaris_7_in_Germany server
to Solaris_8_in_USA viewer, ... my viewer was grey. I was
using an xstartup file I've had success with on Solaris 8
servers, and was stuck and needed a quick solution. So I
tried this at the Solaris_7_in_Germany machine command line:
$ DISPLAY=stt235:1 /usr/dt/bin/dtwm &
My grey-screen viewer turned into a CDE desktop. BTW,
stt235:1 is the name of the VNC server instance I was
running.
Maybe I'll dig and find out what my original grey-screen
problem really is, but at least I'm fine for now with this
workaround.
