Offer: Sound investigation for VNC

G'day VNC list,

I work for a software company that has a good number of customers who
require us to work with open source software. We have had an approach from
an educational institution that would very much like to use VNC on Windows
student computing machines connected to a Linux machine. The second
problem is that VNC doesn't do sound. The first problem is that this
institution has no money :-) We'd very much like to do the work, because
VNC is a nice product and has the right development philosophy.

What we would like to do is offer to do this work if someone wants to pay
for it. We haven't done our investigation yet but it seems that to do it
in a completely general way (such as the way VNC works with video) would
be quite hard, but to solve the problem for particular operating systems
would not be nearly so difficult.

So what I am looking for is:

   a) Pointers to where someone else has already solved this! :-)

   b) Ideas for how the problem is best solved

   c) Expressions of interest from people who wouldn't mind funding
      such a development
