WINS server

My understanding is that if I have a WINS server installed I should be able
to use the vnc viewer and/or the java applet to view a remote server by name
rather than IP address. Is that correct?

Secondly, we've been running vnc for sometime and love it. I saw mention of
a version that had keyboard locking. We currently run the version that does
not display an icon. Is there a version that will allow me to lock a remote
keyboard while connected but does not have a tray icon? The reason for this
is that we use vnc in our public labs for teachers to monitor student
activity without looking over their shoulders. Occasionally a student heads
to sites they ought not be visiting (if you can believe that). By the time
we walk over to the student they usually catch on and change the screen or
exit the program. I'd like to be able to freeze their keyboard so we can
confront them. Thanks.
