I think you could make it so that the resolution is restored, even if
Windows crashes. Just make a simple .reg file with the proper resolution,
and make it run on startup (using
HKLM\Software\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce). All that would be needed is
to have the server create the file and reg entry on connect, and delete them
on disconnect.

Hello all!

Following an emailed request from a frequent user of WinVnc I have added a
new
feature to my version of WinVNC. For those who don't remember, mine was the
version that incorporated wallpaper disabling, font-smoothing disabling, and
pattern disabling.

The new feature allows the user to set what resolution they would like the
server to automatically switch to once a connection has been initiated.
When
the client disconnects, the server automatically reverts back to the
previous
settings again.

The desired resolution is entered into a couple of keys in the registry, so
that when any vncviewer (does not matter which version or from which
platform)
connects, the program reads the keys from the registry and sets the
resolution
accordingly.

Unfortunately the change has to be written to the registry this time, so if
the computer crashes for whatever reason, the resolution will not revert
back
to its previous form; this will only happen if the viewer disconnects
cleanly.
The reason for this is that there is a bug in Win98 (and I believe 2000 too)
which causes the taskbar to disappear when the resolution has been changed
to
800x600 and the change is not saved to the registry. The only way around
this
was to make it a permenant change. In any case, the resolution will revert
back to its previous state when the viewer disconnects.

You can find the new version at http://www.jerpeaks.clara.net

Please let me know how you got on with this via the mailing list.

Thanks.
