VNC -identd xstartup issues

All -rfbauth does is drop the connection immediatly...

I also tried  -auth /etc/vnc/passwd  and got the usual grey screen (no
password) though... that's the correct location of where the password file
is...

any other ideas? or, is what I'm trying to do just not possible?
