VNC/mac and Stuffit 5.1 (again)

It is my uninformed opinion that Stuffit Deluxe 5.5 (now 6.0) should be able
to produce backward compatible archives, by using older, non-proprietary,
compression methods -- including, for example gzip. -- Almost all other
archive software supports backward compatibility.

You (probably) don't have to find an old Stuffit Lite, but you might want to
consider using another OS-insensitive freeware (de)compressor, like MacZip.
See , if this is appealing.

Stuffit Lite appears to use its own engine, BTW.

I can handle (but others may not) changing the type and creator codes to
"fake out" my Stuffit Expander, or any other compression utility -- if
Stuffit 6.0 can't produce the proper older attributes.

Thank you for your time.
