The problem with the WinInstaller is if you already have component
installs with InstallShield 5.x. You should rewrite them all from scratch.
About InstallShield 6.1, custom uninstallers are a whole lot easier as the
uninstall starts from the script now. Also if you have used any of the 3.x or
5.x templates, they are now object packaged so you drag and drop them in as a
component. Another reason is 6.1 has an object packaging tool that you can
create your own install components.
Another reason to use 6.1 is like most tool vendors, if you run into
problems on an older version, the first recommendation is to try it with the
latest version. For instance the GetSystemInfo call returned incorrect
extended memory at values above 2GB when it should have been correct( results
are in KB). I used InstallShield 6.0 at the time so using the latest was not
an issue.
