This msg is primarily for Jonathan Morton, though others may be
interested as well, so I'm posting to the list.
I figured out the exact circumstances that cause my Mac to bomb out when
Netscape is launched from a remote ws using VNC.
Here is the server environment:
Mac 7300 running OS 8.1
IPNetRouter 1.4.8.2 -- 2 NICs
Netscape 4.7
VPCServer 3.3.2b2.2
When IPNetRouter is running, the server has 2 IP addresses: the
ISP-supplied address which I will call 1.2.3.4, and the local-only
address 192.168.0.1. The address that shows in the TCP/IP control panel
and in VPC Config is 1.2.3.4.
When I attach to the server using VNC Viewer, I can attach using
*either* IP address. Naturally, my preference is to attach using
192.168.0.1, because it will never change, whereas the ISP-supplied
address may.
However, the Netscape crashes happen only if I attach using 192.168.0.1.
If I attach using 1.2.3.4, I can run Netscape remotely all day long.
Other TCP/IP programs are unaffected. I have successfully run Fetch and
MSN Message Service remotely using either IP to attach with.
