Version problem?

I couldn't find any reference to this in the FAQ, so here goes...

I grabbed the latest version of VNC off the web site (3.3.3r1). Tried
to go to an NT box running, apparently, an older version of VNC, and got
this:

[joliver "at" joliver joliver]$ /usr/local/vnc/vncviewer
VNC server supports protocol version 3.3 (viewer 3.3)
VNC authentication failed

So I asked someone who can access this host for a copy of their
vncviewer, and got the same problem! My machine is Mandrake Linux 7.0,
mostly out-of-the-box, and the target is an NT 4 machine. The message
*looks* like it's saying my viewer is too new! What's up with that?
