One thing I would worry about is the source and protocol drifting 
apart on the various platforms until they no longer work together.

One of the biggest benefits of VNC, other than it being open source, 
is that it is the only fully cross platform remote control tool 
available, but it each platform has its own auth scheme, and 
compression/encryption that are incomparable you have eliminated that 
benefit.
