Hello,
I just started using VNC and it works okay so far. I am having problems with
my Mac VNC server stopping the sending of screen updates. Either that, or my
Linux client stops receiving and processing them correctly. This occurs
primarily when I am loading programs, closing programs, or doing anything
that causes a lot of disk activity on the Mac server. I have 72MB of ram and
virtual memory is off on the Mac.
The strangest thing is that sometimes, the screen will update in a 10-15
pixel high stripe across the screen about 40 pixels below the menu. I can
pull down menus and see a stripe of about a line (or rather two halves) and
the cursor updates only in that stripe.
Here is my detailed configurations (I've tried many others):
Server:
Power Macintosh 6100/66MHz 72MB RAM (no VM) running Mac OS 8.1 and VNC 3.3
(I downloaded it 5 days ago).
Open Transport 1.3.0
8 bits per pixel 800x600 VGA
VNC Server configuration:
Use screen based cursor
Do not use Hextile Encoding
Do not allow applescript
Server priority=5
The buffer size is initial=100%, shrinks to=100%, and do not use decreasing
buffer sizes
Client:
AMD K6 200MHz 32MB RAM using KDE 1.1 (and always low on memory) 52MB swap
Linux Kernel 2.0.36
VNC 3.3 client (I load with default options: vncserver ip.add.re.ss:0)
32 bits per pixel 1024x768
If anyone knows what may be the problem, please let me know. I read the FAQ
and bugs and searched the archive, but I couldn't find the answer.
Thanks in advance,
