Try doing an ls -la /tmp/.X11-unix, you may have an old X1 file left over in
there - if it exists and there is no server running on :1 delete it and then
try the vncserver :1 again.

Also, sometimes after killing your vncserver you have to wait a few minutes
before you can use that number again.
